Topeka Public Schools, in partnership with Evergy Energy Services, created the Kanza Education and Science Park as a hands-on learning opportunity for Topeka Public School students.
Some of the learning stations include a century-old milk barn that was updated with photovoltaic solar panels, an Energy Education Center that has a functioning electrical substation specifically designed for viewing and learning by students, and a wind turbine that generates power for the substation.
Evergy also created an educational app that uses augmented reality that students can download on their phones or iPad that challenges them to keep a city running using a combination of solar power, wind energy, and a coal power plant.
Anyone wishing to schedule a tour of the education park can contact Lindsey Noonan (contact information to the right).
