In 2009 the Topeka Public Schools purchased 150 acres of land off I-70 and MacVicar Street and called it the Kanza Education and Science Park. They team with Westar Energy, now Evergy Energy, to create a hands-on learning opportunity for students. It is the largest urban prairie in the United States.
The school district uses the park for educational field trips and learning for 4th and 7th grade students.,
