Title VI - Indian Education

The Native American Education Program (Indian Education Program) is funded by the Federal Formula Title VI Grant through the US Department of Education, Office of Indian Education. This program supports and advocates for the success of our Native American students.

  • We serve as advocates within the school system to assist students with academic and personal challenges
  • We connect students to resources within their buildings and the community
  • We expose students to higher educational opportunities, work and community programs, and assist with registering for the ACT
  • We monitor attendance and problem solve when attendance is an issue
  • We contact parents with academic, behavioral and attendance concerns
  • We attend IEP and/or SIT meetings, and accompany students to court appearances per the request of parents or staff
  • We continually collaborate with staff (teachers, counselors, principals, social workers and truancy coordinators).

In addition to the regular school year, the program offers and culturally rich Indian Education Summer School for eligible Native American students who have just completed grades K-7.

  • The program is typically for two weeks in June, and breakfast, lunch and transportation are provided. It is a unique program exploring the culture, heritage, language and art of Indigenous People through the arts. Students enrich their math skills, spatial relationships, even geometry. They also read poems and short stories about Native American culture, and novels with Native American protagonists. Students are also given the opportunity to put up a tipi, build an authentic drum, rawhide rattle and many other authentic relating to the history of various tribes.
