Services Provided for Administrators and Schools

As a department, we provide:

  • a research-based delivery model designed by a team of elementary and secondary principals, teachers, English Learner (EL) experts and outside consultants which is re-evaluated every year
  • Licensed/English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsed teachers for every English Learner (EL)  school
  • Elementary and Secondary English Learner (EL) coaches to support teachers and administrators who work with English Languages Learners
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) paraeducators for every English Learner (EL) school
  • Dual language (English/Spanish) programs
  • Middle School Newcomer Program for students who are non-English speakers and/or new to the United States
  • District-wide personnel to help translate documents to Spanish and/or English
  • Continuous professional development throughout the district with non-English Learner (EL)  teachers throughout the district and in several buildings. 
  • Instructional materials which are tailored for English language learners
  • Ongoing collaboration with all elementary and secondary English Learner (EL) 
  • Support and guidance as needed for English Learner (EL)  families, students, teachers and administration
  • Licensed and trained staff to administer the Kansas English Language Proficiency Assessments (KELPA) required by the state for all English Learner (EL) and non-English Learner (EL)  sites
