National Board Certification is a professional development process developed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The National Board Certification is often considered the highest achievement in teaching. The process, which can take between one to three years to complete, is made-up of four areas, content knowledge, differentiation in instruction, teaching practice and learning environment, and effective and reflective practitioner.
Any teacher within Topeka Public Schools who achieves National Board Certification is compensated an additional $2,500 per year, as long as they keep their certification current. In addition, KSDE offers a $1,000 stipend.
