The 2023 summer enrichment camp is full of fun and interesting learning opportunities! We will be offering the following camp experiences this summer. In the summer enrichment classes, students sign up by the week. Topeka Public Schools students may attend for free, however; students from outside of the district must pay $50 per week to attend with a one-time $10 non-refundable registration fee.
Please click on this link to download the permission slip, print it and bring it on the first day of your child's Summer Camp.
Transportation will be provided for ALL Topeka Public Schools Elementary students who attend all four weeks at the Jardine Campus. Middle and High School students have free access to the Topeka Metro routes through the Kids Ride Free program.
Classes will be held either at the Jardine Campus (2600 SW 33rd St) or at TCALC (drop off and pick up will be in front of Capital City High School, 2731 SW East Circle Drive South). Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students.
All students will register in the grade level that they just finished during the 2022/2023 school year. For example, if your student finishes 2nd grade by the time Summer Camps start, then your child must register for 2nd grade during Summer Camps.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF PRESCHOOL-AGED STUDENTS All preschool students must have attended preschool during the 2022-2023 school year AND must be fully toilet-trained to attend. There will be no exceptions.

Grade Level: 9-11 Date: Week 1, 2, 3, 4 Location: Topeka West High School Description: High school students who want to learn and gain more knowledge and awareness around the ACT assessment should enroll for this weekly offering. Get ahead with the advantage of knowing what's on the test and being put through sample test practice sessions.
Grade Level: 6, 7, 8 Date: Week 1 & 2 (two-week session) Location: TCALC Description: Explore the amazing world of Animal Science. During this 2 weeks session students will have the opportunity to learn about the care and management of animals both big and small. Topics will include Horses, Cattle, Dogs, Cats, and Chickens! Field trip to a local farm and hands-on lessons with live animals will be a highlight of the session

We will have a variety of skill levels, from those just learning the rules to 1200 Elo and up, so don't be afraid to sign up if you're interested! Grade Level: 9-12 Date: Week 1 & 3, 2 & 4 Location: TCALC Description: College exploration is the perfect way to kickstart your college search! In this class, you will learn about the college admissions process, scholarships, and financial aid from a former college admissions counselor. You will also get to go on visits to nearby colleges, hear from guest speakers, and talk with college professors and current students. We will host field trips again this year, and will do three visits each week.
Weeks 1 & 3: K State, KCKCC, Washburn (subject to change) Weeks 2 & 4: KU, JCCC, and ESU (subject to change)
We will leave for all field trips at 8:00 am and return by 11:30 am for lunch.
Grade Level: 6, 7, 8 Date: Week 1 & 2 (two-week session) Location: TCALC Description: The students will be involved in the design and building of different pieces of useful and interactive lawn furniture for the grounds of TCALC. These could include benches and tables, planter boxes and artistic pieces. The students will also learn to safely work with a variety of common hand and power tools.
Grade Level: 1-5 Date: Week 1, 2, 3, 4 Location: Jardine Campus Course Description: We will be focusing on teambuilding and cooperative learning through indoor/outdoor games and sports. Students will also participate in our district’s social/emotional curriculum, Second Steps, to develop and work on social skills. Grade Level: 6, 7, 8 Date: Week 1 & 2 (two-week session) Location: TCALC Description: Students will explore the wonderful world of baking! This course is designed for students of any skill or experience level. We will be covering the basics of measurement, the purposes of five fundamental ingredients through exploring baking science, common mixing and baking techniques. We are a scratch bakery, so everything the students will be using will be items we make from raw ingredients right here in our own kitchen.
We will start off with simple mixes like drop cookies, and gradually work our way to creating nicely decorated 3 layer cakes. There is a bit of everything in this class for someone looking to learn about kitchen basics and techniques.
Grade Level: 2-8 Date: Week 1, 2, 3, 4 Location: Jardine Campus Description: Drama/Theater will be offered to students in 2nd grade through 8th grade in two sessions: One group of students in 2nd-8th grade participate on Week 1 & Week 2 (Session 1, Parts 1 & 2), and another group of 2nd-8th grade students during Week 3 & Week 4 (Session 2, Parts 1 & 2). This will allow your student to learn theatrical skills as well as prepare them for their final performance at the end of their second week. Please plan to register your student for both weeks of Session 1 & both weeks of Session 2 so that they can engage in two weeks of learning their lines and practicing for their final performance.

Grade Level:K-5 Date: Week 1, 2, 3, 4 Location: Jardine Campus Description: Join us as we dive into art! Students will explore different mediums as we put our own spin on classic works. We will learn about Van Gogh, Monet, and Andy Warhol and give each student an opportunity to let their creativity flow!

Grade Level: 6, 7, 8 Date: 1, 2, 3, 4 (two-week sessions) Week 1 & 2 - Session 1 Week 3 & 4 - Session 2 Location: TCALC Description: Students will explore simple machines and gear ratios while learning to calculate how much mechanical advantage a machine provides. Students will take a trip to an Ag dealership to look at hydraulic systems and visit Gage Park to find out the mechanical advantage of some playground equipment. Students will also build a VexV5 clawbot and learn to program and drive it. We will have several head-to-head challenges to bring out your competitive spirit. Students will also do some 3D printing. Finally, we will take a look at the Vex Robotics Competition for next year.
Grade Level: 3-5 Date: Week 1, 2 Location: Jardine Campus Description: In this camp, we will be learning about the engineering design process! This is a project-based learning (PBL) opportunity where students will design and build a 3D version of their dream treehouse. The focus of this PBL is to define a problem reflecting a need, and create a solution by following criteria for success. Students will also apply problem solving skills to account for limitations to design elements that will result in an engineeringly sound final product. Through this process, students will learn to think like an engineer while utilizing practical skills such as teamwork and collaboration. Students will bring their treehouses home at the end of the week!

We will, also, have the opportunity to learn about different aspects of African culture. Week 2: Asia, We will be focusing on learning about the different animals found in Asia and their habitats through art. We will, also, have the opportunity to learn about different aspects of Asian culture. Week 3: Oceania, We will be focusing on learning about the different animals found in Oceania areas and their habitats through art. We will, also, have the opportunity to learn about different aspects of Oceania culture. This would include areas from Hawaii, Australia, etc.

During this week-long camp, students will participate in cooking traditional foods, learning language, and creating projects linked to Indigenous history.

Students in this camp will engage in experiences inside and outside of the classroom, through field trips, as a way to use language in authentic settings. Students will also learn all about the Solar System by doing hands-on experiments, art, and games. Please keep in mind that week 2 is a repeat of week 1.

Students will participate in lots of hands-on experiments and learn about the scientific method. We will create lava lamps, color explosions, chemical reactions, and much more. Grade Level: 6, 7, 8 Date: (two-week sessions) Week 1 & 2 - Session 1 Week 3 & 4 - Session 2 Location: TCALC Description: Students attending the Summer Web and Digital Pathway will earn a Google Certificate in which they explore digital literacy, healthy digital habits, their digital footprint, and cyber security for their age group. Students will build their own webpage that will show off hands-on infographics, posters, and simple animations. They will experiment with digital photography, and green screen videography shooting and editing. Required: Students will need to be able to sign into their active TPS 501 school email address.

We will conduct interviews, review music, learn about poetry, do movie reviews, have informational articles, and review sports games.
