Criteria for Mentor Selection

All Mentor Teachers must have:

  • a minimum of three consecutive years of successful experience in the area in which he/she will be mentoring;
  • Current knowledge of teaching styles and philosophies;
  • School specialist mentoring can be cross-district if necessary;
  • Demonstrate exemplary teaching ability as measured by the district observations, pre and post conferences;
  • Exhibits qualities of an effective mentor e.g. understanding of content standards, ability to transmit effective and current teaching strategies, understanding of diverse learning styles (differentiated instruction), ability to listen;
  • May provide assistance and guidance to no more than two teachers;
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for the educator by providing opportunities for continual feedback and reflection;
  • Willingness to commit the extra time and effort needed;
  • Participate voluntarily.
