Computer Science

Computer Science is broken into two semester-long courses, Computer Science and Intro to Coding. Our curriculum is based on Computer Science Teachers Associate (CSTA) and Kansas Computer Science Standards which consists of five following modules.

  • Computing Systems
  • Networks and the Internet
  • Data Analysis
  • Algorithms and Programming
  • Impact of Computer and Careers
Computer Science - 1 semester

The computer science course focuses on four of the five modules. Computer science, networks and the internet, data analysis, and impact of computing. Projects include learning about operating systems, building a computer, building and programming a tablet, understanding WiFi and networks, cyber security, IoT, HTML/CSS, following Google Trends, YouTube Analytics, Google Sheets and Data Studio, social media, digital citizenship, ethics, digital divide and equity.

Intro to Coding - 1 semester

The intro to coding course focuses on programming, algorithms, and data analysis (shared with CS). A knowledge of basic algebra and geometry is beneficial in this course.  Projects include programming Cue robots, building and programming Lego robots, 3D Modeling, computer-assisting drawing, JavaScript, Python, coding Drones, learning Swift programming, and setting up programmed automation. A final project that is based on one or more aspects of programming is required and careers must be included.
