2021 Preservice Sessions

The following sessions were the prerecorded workshops presented during the August 4th and 5th preservice event. In order to receive professional development points, you must complete the Point Request form located on Frontline. The route to the form: Log on to Frontline~ Locate the Navigation Bar on the left side~Scroll down to Forms~ Click~will extend to the right~Click, Point Request Form. All the fields in red are required to complete. 

 

Session: 501 101

Description: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals on the basis of disability. This session will orient the participant to the fundamentals of 504s, as well as briefly describe the documents, forms, and process of writing 504 Plans in Topeka Public Schools.

AVID Elective Teachers will work through connecting the four domains of AVID to school improvement initiatives. After participating in this session, AVID Elective Teachers might use this as a turnaround training opportunity.

Description: This session introduces the concept of Disciplinary Literacy and provides a rationale for teaching literacy in all content areas. The video serves as an introduction to subsequent videos that address specific communication tasks within different disciplines and provides training for direct literacy instruction in your content area. This session will demonstrate how to teach students a systematic way to decode words based on the knowledge of syllable types. There will be multiple demonstrations of the spot and dot strategy, which is an effective strategy to use with your students to decode unknown words.

Description: Curriculum orientation, implementation strategies, and best practices for getting your school’s Second Step Elementary digital program implementation started. For school leaders and instructional coaches.

Session: How to Use the Instructional Planning Guide Document and Virtual Field Trips to Enhance Learning

Description: This session will show participants how to use the instructional planning guide for the 2020-2021 school year. Participants will also learn how to plan and incorporate virtual field trips into the curriculum.

Session: Kansas State Library Children's E-Book Resources

Description: This session will introduce participants to the eBook resources on the Kansas State Library Resources website. It will also provide ways to use the resources within the classroom.

Session: Learning and the Brain

Description: This session will provide information on the latest in brain research. Strategies will also be presented to create a brain friendly classroom.

Session: MobyMax Early Literacy Programs for Primary Students

Session: MobyMax Early Learning Trio
