Semantics

The sixth component of structured literacy is semantics.  It refers to the meaning of the words in a sentence. Vocabulary plays a critical role in semantics.  For example, it is important to note that “run” has many definitions and can function as both a now and a verb. To effectively comprehend a reader must determine the correct part of speech as well as the meaning of the words in the sentence.
