Morphology

Morphology is the fourth component of structured literacy. It explores the study of word parts and their meaning, which is called a morpheme. A large component of word part meaning comes from the knowledge of affixes and roots, which include prefixes and suffixes. Roots are a unit of meaning, and affixes are added to the root to impact meaning. For example, spec is a root word meaning to see.  Spectacles are eyewear used to see.
